{"id":5386,"date":"2020-02-27T16:06:24","date_gmt":"2020-02-27T16:06:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/?p=5386"},"modified":"2020-02-27T16:08:00","modified_gmt":"2020-02-27T16:08:00","slug":"access-canvas-and-book-on-to-the-first-phase-of-canvas-training-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/2020\/02\/27\/access-canvas-and-book-on-to-the-first-phase-of-canvas-training-now\/","title":{"rendered":"Access Canvas and book on to the first phase of Canvas training now"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>All\u00a0Learning and Teaching colleagues\u00a0can now log in\u00a0to\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/canvas.ncl.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Canvas<\/a>,\u00a0our new Virtual Learning Environment,\u00a0which will be replacing Blackboard from 1st August 2020.\u00a0This is an exciting milestone as we transition to Canvas and\u00a0with access to a personal\u00a0sandbox\u00a0(practice)\u00a0course and an online\u00a0Canvas\u00a0Orientation\u00a0course,\u00a0colleagues\u00a0have an\u00a0early\u00a0opportunity to familiarise themselves\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0platform.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do you get access?&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/canvas.ncl.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/canvas.ncl.ac.uk<\/a>&nbsp;and log in with&nbsp;your&nbsp;nid@newcastle.ac.uk&nbsp;account.&nbsp;Once you have access you will see your&nbsp;personal sandbox (practice) course&nbsp;and the&nbsp;Canvas&nbsp;Orientation course&nbsp;on your Canvas dashboard.&nbsp;Please do not use Internet Explorer as this browser is not supported by Canvas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What training and support is available?&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To support&nbsp;you&nbsp;with the&nbsp;transition&nbsp;from Blackboard to Canvas and to help you to get the most out of Canvas,&nbsp;a&nbsp;comprehensive suite of&nbsp;training&nbsp;has been developed&nbsp;including Canvas Fundamentals, Professional Service sessions,&nbsp;Assignments and&nbsp;Quizzes and more.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sessions taking place throughout April-June are now&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/elements.ncl.ac.uk\/course\/index.php?categoryid=219\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">available to book<\/a>. There will be further sessions released in March&nbsp;to run from&nbsp;July 2020 onwards.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are based at our London, Malaysia or Singapore campuses&nbsp;and are unable to attend face to face training sessions in Newcastle, we are working with colleagues&nbsp;at each campus&nbsp;to&nbsp;organise&nbsp;suitable sessions,&nbsp;which will be communicated to you shortly.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further information regarding PGR access to training will also be communicated soon.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to training,&nbsp;the following support is available:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Access to&nbsp;the&nbsp;24\/7 help from Canvas. This&nbsp;is a fantastic resource and is available to all staff and students. You can&nbsp;contact Canvas&nbsp;via live chat,&nbsp;from within the platform, phone or email for&nbsp;all of&nbsp;your \u2018How do I\u2019 questions.&nbsp;<\/li><li>The&nbsp;online&nbsp;Canvas&nbsp;Orientation&nbsp;course&nbsp;accessed from the Canvas dashboard. This&nbsp;has been designed to support you in using the key features and tools in Canvas and there are&nbsp;a number of&nbsp;self-check quizzes for you to check your understanding as you&nbsp;work through each section.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>A comprehensive library of&nbsp;Canvas step-by-step guides and video tutorials.
