{"id":5820,"date":"2020-10-20T19:07:21","date_gmt":"2020-10-20T18:07:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/?p=5820"},"modified":"2020-10-22T14:31:56","modified_gmt":"2020-10-22T13:31:56","slug":"collaborative-award-for-teaching-excellence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/2020\/10\/20\/collaborative-award-for-teaching-excellence\/","title":{"rendered":"Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Advance HE Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) celebrates&nbsp;collaborative work that has had a demonstrable impact on teaching and learning.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LTDS support applications to CATE, and work with the National Teaching Fellows\/CATE winners in the University to promote their work and teaching excellence. Each institution can nominate one team to each round of the scheme.&nbsp;In 2020&nbsp;there was success for the&nbsp;E-Learning Unit&nbsp;in the&nbsp;School of Mathematics, Statistics &amp; Physics, who&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/press\/articles\/latest\/2020\/08\/nationalteachingfellowships2020\/\">received the Award<\/a><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/press\/articles\/latest\/2020\/08\/nationalteachingfellowships2020\/\" target=\"_blank\"> <\/a>for&nbsp;promoting&nbsp;the use of technology to support the teaching and learning of mathematics in the School, University and wider community.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More details about the scheme can be found on the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.heacademy.ac.uk\/individuals\/national-teaching-fellowship-scheme\/CATE\" target=\"_blank\">Advance HE website<\/a>, as well as <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.advance-he.ac.uk\/sites\/default\/files\/2020-10\/CATE%202021%20-%20Guidance%20for%20institutions%20and%20teams%20%28English%20version%29.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">guidance for participants and institutions<\/a>&nbsp;for their 2021 scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2021&nbsp;Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We are pleased to announce the launch of the University process to determine the institutional nominees to the 2021&nbsp;Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Application to be an institutional nominee&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Nominations are welcomed from teams who feel their work has a major, positive impact on student teaching and learning. Collaborative teams who would like to be considered&nbsp;should&nbsp;provide a maximum of 1000 words,&nbsp;which address the following criteria:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Evidence of excellence in the team&#8217;s collaborative approach<\/li><li>Excellence in the impact of collaborative working <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All higher education providers are eligible to enter one team.&nbsp;Your team\u2019s submission should be sent to&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"mailto:LTDS@newcastle.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\">LTDS@newcastle.ac.uk<\/a>&nbsp;by 12 noon on 16th November 2020.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advance HE Criteria&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;Excellence in the team\u2019s collaborative approach<\/strong>:&nbsp;Evidence of excellence in the team\u2019s approach to working collaboratively; commensurate with their context and the opportunities afforded by it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This may, for example, be demonstrated by providing evidence of:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>having a clear set of aims, objectives and rationale for the team\u2019s approach and how the group constitutes a team and developed as a&nbsp;team;&nbsp;<\/li><li>demonstrating direct engagement of students within or with the&nbsp;team;&nbsp;<\/li><li>illustrating how the team has contributed to wider thematic and sector priorities, for example, assessment and feedback; retention, employability, staff development; students as partners; technology and social&nbsp;media;&nbsp;<\/li><li>working collaboratively with a range of stakeholder&nbsp;groups;&nbsp;<\/li><li>embedding practices across different programmes, disciplines, campuses or&nbsp;institutions;&nbsp;<\/li><li>being flexible and creative in working to address unanticipated situations or&nbsp;events;&nbsp;<\/li><li>measuring the impact or outcomes of collaborative work.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Excellence in the impact of collaborative working<\/strong><strong>:&nbsp;<\/strong>Evidence of the team having a demonstrable impact on teaching and learning beyond their immediate academic or professional area.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This may, for example, be demonstrated by providing evidence of:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>the reach of the team\u2019s&nbsp;work;&nbsp;<\/li><li>the benefit or value derived from working as a&nbsp;team;&nbsp;<\/li><li>the impact of supporting colleagues and\/or influencing support for student&nbsp;learning;&nbsp;<\/li><li>the impact on student learning or&nbsp;outcomes;&nbsp;<\/li><li>the impact of any outcomes\/outputs of collaborative work.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How LTDS can help:&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>We can provide support and advice on the CATE scheme and the application process.
