{"id":6141,"date":"2021-04-14T16:39:56","date_gmt":"2021-04-14T15:39:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/?p=6141"},"modified":"2021-04-19T09:28:15","modified_gmt":"2021-04-19T08:28:15","slug":"assessment-resources-on-digital-learning-website","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ltdev\/2021\/04\/14\/assessment-resources-on-digital-learning-website\/","title":{"rendered":"Assessment resources on Digital Learning website"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Resources are available to help staff prepare for the semester 2 assessment period, including:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Exams<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Information about\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/services.ncl.ac.uk\/digitallearning\/guides\/assessment\/exams\/\" target=\"_blank\">setting take home exams<\/a>\u00a0using Canvas, including an updated\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/newcastle.sharepoint.com\/:w:\/r\/sites\/LTDS\/DigitalLearningSite\/StaffOnly\/Cover_sheet_24_hour_take_home_exams_final.docx?d=w7109ecfc2d804baca4434c8ccfbbc5fb&amp;csf=1&amp;web=1&amp;e=RlR3zs\" target=\"_blank\">cover sheet for take home exams<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/services.ncl.ac.uk\/digitallearning\/guides\/assessment\/student\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Assessment\u00a0guidance for students<\/a>\u00a0is available,\u00a0including how to submit an assignment and advice about accepted file types and file size that will help answer student queries.\u00a0 This page can be shared with students as part of assessment instructions.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Assignment set&nbsp;up&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Guidance is available on whether to use a&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/services.ncl.ac.uk\/digitallearning\/guides\/assignments\/\" target=\"_blank\">Canvas Assignment or a Turnitin Assignment<\/a>.&nbsp; <\/li><li>It is&nbsp;important that module teams agree which assignment type to use before it is set up in Canvas, and that marking is done in the correct tool.  <a href=\"https:\/\/ncl.instructure.com\/courses\/76\/pages\/online-marking-and-gradebook?module_item_id=17365\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SpeedGrader<\/a> (link to Canvas Orientation course)&nbsp;must be used for a Canvas Assignment, <a href=\"https:\/\/campus.recap.ncl.ac.uk\/Panopto\/Pages\/Viewer.aspx?id=070bb472-8269-4ea0-a687-abeb00ddc2d8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Turnitin Feedback Studio<\/a> (link to screencast) must for a Turnitin Assignment.&nbsp;<\/li><li>When an&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/services.ncl.ac.uk\/digitallearning\/guides\/assignments\/\" target=\"_blank\">assignment is created<\/a>, the maximum number of marks available&nbsp;(for example 100)&nbsp;must&nbsp;be&nbsp;entered in the Points field.&nbsp;&nbsp;The points should never be set as zero, as this causes technical issues.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Marking and moderation&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/newcastle.sharepoint.com\/:w:\/r\/sites\/LTDS\/DigitalLearningSite\/web\/Delegated%20marking%20using%20Sections%20in%20Canvas%20-%20Copy.docx?d=wf6905d619c174a19bfdf40e585a243a4&amp;csf=1&amp;web=1&amp;e=hZYaOy\" target=\"_blank\">Delegated marking can be managed using Sections<\/a>&nbsp;for a Canvas Assignment to assign submissions to markers.&nbsp;&nbsp;This option is not available for a Turnitin Assignment, but there are work arounds to&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/newcastle.sharepoint.com\/:w:\/r\/sites\/LTDS\/_layouts\/15\/Doc.aspx?sourcedoc=%7B6D346182-2E6C-4A1C-9144-CAC655040627%7D&amp;file=Delegated%20marking%20-%20%20Turnitin%20potential%20work%20around%20options.docx&amp;action=default&amp;mobileredirect=true\" target=\"_blank\">delegate marking&nbsp;for a Turnitin assignment<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/services.ncl.ac.uk\/digitallearning\/guides\/assignments\/moderate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Guidance on using Canvas for moderation of assignments<\/a>&nbsp;is now available.&nbsp;&nbsp;Note that&nbsp;blind&nbsp;double marking can be managed using a Canvas Assignment, this must be set up before&nbsp;marking is started.&nbsp;<\/li><li>It is possible for&nbsp;Professional Service&nbsp;staff to&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/services.ncl.ac.uk\/digitallearning\/guides\/assignments\/\" target=\"_blank\">temporarily&nbsp;switch&nbsp;off anonymous marking<\/a>&nbsp;for administrative purposes.&nbsp;<\/li><li>It\u2019s&nbsp;now possible to&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/newcastle.sharepoint.com\/hub\/sp\/Pages\/NESS-Specific-Process-Guidance.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">import marks from Canvas into NESS<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Further help&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Guidance on&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/services.ncl.ac.uk\/digitallearning\/guides\/assessment\/issues\/\" target=\"_blank\">avoiding common issues<\/a>&nbsp;with digital assessment&nbsp;tools&nbsp;<\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/services.ncl.ac.uk\/digitallearning\/guides\/\" target=\"_blank\">Digital learning guides<\/a>&nbsp;on all centrally supported technology enhanced learning&nbsp;tools.&nbsp;<\/li><li>If you would like training,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/services.ncl.ac.uk\/digitallearning\/contactandsupport\/training\/\" target=\"_blank\">webinars on digital assessment tools<\/a>&nbsp;are available to book.&nbsp;
