For the purposes of this blog, we will be looking at video captioning in the Panopto (also know as Recap) system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When discussing video content, we are referring to recordings that are provided to students for educations purposes (that is delivered via Canvas), for example lecture recordings, teaching presentations etc. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Captioning in Panopto<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The ReCap service (Panopto) provides the ability to add ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition) generated captions to your recordings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The University recognises that automatically generated captions are not 100% correct and have published a\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/learning-and-teaching\/effective-practice\/video-and-audio\/transcripts-captions\/captions-disclaimer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">captions disclaimer<\/a>\u202ffor viewers.\u202f<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We recommend reviewing automatically generated captions and making light-touch edits before making them available.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A short video guide on how to add captions to a Panopto recording can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/howtovideos.hosted.panopto.com\/Panopto\/Pages\/Viewer.aspx?id=610849cd-1349-4128-a37f-ab9a0151b933\">How to Add Automatic Captions to a Video<\/a> page on the Panopto website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Further Guidance on Captioning<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For further guidance on captioning video content and FAQs, please visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/learning-and-teaching\/effective-practice\/video-and-audio\/transcripts-captions\/\">Captions and Transcripts<\/a> pages on the Learning and Teaching development website. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Accessibility week &#8211;Day 4 All learning resources we create should aim to be accessible as possible and this includes video content.
