{"id":30,"date":"2012-05-08T16:50:06","date_gmt":"2012-05-08T15:50:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/lucillevalentine\/?p=30"},"modified":"2012-05-10T11:05:52","modified_gmt":"2012-05-10T10:05:52","slug":"week-21-changing-a-mindset-changing-the-status-quo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/lucillevalentine\/2012\/05\/08\/week-21-changing-a-mindset-changing-the-status-quo\/","title":{"rendered":"Changing a mindset &#8211; Changing the status quo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Week 2:1<\/p>\n<p>KTP meeting:<\/p>\n<p>How many KTP\u2019s have been awarded by Business School (or is that <em>to<\/em> NUBS) recently?\u00a0 One.\u00a0 And that is to an academic who has now relocated.\u00a0 Fiona\u2019s mention of this specific point means that maybe specific champions are needed in areas of expertise for KTP\u2019s to start and then grow.\u00a0 Did Chris Hicks have a bad experience with KTP\u2019s a long time ago (before Fiona)?\u00a0 Management of KTP\u2019s seems very well known \u2013 the project management of everything from the project proposal to the funders and advertising for researcher and all of that is all done by the KTP unit.<\/p>\n<p>Joanna says that Teesside Business School manages to achieve 20 KTP\u2019s a year.\u00a0 Clearly some learning needs to be done on how they achieve this.<\/p>\n<p>Fiona will send me case studies of past KTP\u2019s in the biosciences \/ medical and business.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Changing a mindset is changing the status quo, changing the way that things are done.\u00a0 If one wants more people being entrepreneurial then at what point do we confront them with that change; where have the choice architects set up shop?<\/p>\n<p>Where should messages be directed?\u00a0 What information is currently being shared and is the default setting good?<\/p>\n<p>Can you tell that I am reading the book <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nudge_(book)\">Nudge<\/a> ?\u00a0 Marvellous. \u00a0And the word always makes me think of Sylvia Plath\u2019s poem Mushrooms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMushrooms<\/p>\n<p>Overnight, very<br \/>\nWhitely, discreetly,<br \/>\nVery quietly<\/p>\n<p>Our toes, our noses<br \/>\nTake hold on the loam,<br \/>\nAcquire the air.<\/p>\n<p>Nobody sees us,<br \/>\nStops us, betrays us;<br \/>\nThe small grains make room.<\/p>\n<p>Soft fists insist on<br \/>\nHeaving the needles,<br \/>\nThe leafy bedding,<\/p>\n<p>Even the paving.<br \/>\nOur hammers, our rams,<br \/>\nEarless and eyeless,<\/p>\n<p>Perfectly voiceless,<br \/>\nWiden the crannies,<br \/>\nShoulder through holes.
