Of the corroded coins we sent off to Karen most were identifiable when they returned. Three of these were coins of the House of Valentinian (Reece Period 19).<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/luftonarchaeology\/2016\/09\/03\/the-post-excavation-analysis-begins\/\"> Keen readers of this blog may remember that we were puzzled by the absence of these coins<\/a>, Well, it turns out they weren&#8217;t absent at all but simply corroded!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/luftonarchaeology\/files\/2016\/11\/coins.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-932\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/luftonarchaeology\/files\/2016\/11\/coins-300x208.jpg\" alt=\"coins\" width=\"300\" height=\"208\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/luftonarchaeology\/files\/2016\/11\/coins-300x208.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/luftonarchaeology\/files\/2016\/11\/coins-768x533.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/luftonarchaeology\/files\/2016\/11\/coins-432x300.jpg 432w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/luftonarchaeology\/files\/2016\/11\/coins.jpg 990w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">The new coin diagram. Now we have some in Period 19!<\/p>\n<p>In other news we&#8217;ve arranged for some of our finds to be drawn by archaeological illustrator <a href=\"http:\/\/www.markhoyle.com\/\">Mark Hoyle<\/a>. It&#8217;s great to have Mark working with us and we hope to post some of his illustrations in due course.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, congratulations to Andy.
