STEVE CAUGHEY, director of the National Innovation Centre for Data at Newcastle University, discusses how investment in data analytics can provide immediate returns.
Last week we were part of ENGIE UK & Ireland’s Innovation event held at Newcastle Helix. This short film from ENGIE includes us talking about our role at the event and the benefits of universities, SMEs and large businesses coming together to identify common problems and seek innovative, disruptive solutions:
Our Director, Steve Caughey, reflects on his participation in this year’s AI and Big Data Expo held in London at the end of April.
I was delighted to head down to London a couple of weeks ago to take part in a panel discussion at the AI and Big Data Expo.

A Data-driven culture
How does the National Innovation Centre for Data work with organisations?
It was a fascinating event and I was pleased to be there to help raise the profile of Newcastle Helix. Helix is an amazing development bringing together businesses, communities, researchers, and students.
We are one of three National Centres at Helix:
- National Innovation Centre for Data (NICD)
- National Innovation Centre for Ageing (NICA)
- National Centre for Energy Systems Integration
NICA and NICD will be moving into a new £50M building on the Helix site later this year (idea for blog … our new building) and there are opportunities for organisations to become tenants alongside us. Do get in touch if you think you might be interested.
