{"id":70,"date":"2019-01-15T16:32:11","date_gmt":"2019-01-15T16:32:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ncllingconf\/?page_id=70"},"modified":"2020-03-12T17:05:31","modified_gmt":"2020-03-12T17:05:31","slug":"workshops","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ncllingconf\/workshops\/","title":{"rendered":"Workshop"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Facilitated by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.robdrummond.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Rob Drummond<\/a><\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.robdrummond.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-347 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ncllingconf\/files\/2020\/03\/Rob-BW_small-231x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"231\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ncllingconf\/files\/2020\/03\/Rob-BW_small-231x300.jpg 231w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/ncllingconf\/files\/2020\/03\/Rob-BW_small.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 231px) 100vw, 231px\" \/><\/a>There will be a satellite workshop on the afternoon of Wednesday 1st April facilitated by Dr Rob Drummond, Head of Youth Language at the Manchester Centre for Youth Studies and Reader in the Department of Languages at Manchester Metropolitan University.<\/p>\n<p>He is a linguist based in Manchester (UK) involved primarily in sociolinguistic variation (especially at the level of sound), urban adolescent speech, dialects, linguistic ethnography, and identity.\u00a0<span data-ogsb=\"rgb(255, 255, 255)\">In 2019, Rob and his research partner,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.erincarrie.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(235, 33, 33)\" data-ogsb=\"rgb(255, 255, 255)\">Erin Carrie<\/a>,<span data-ogsb=\"rgb(255, 255, 255)\">\u00a0were awarded an AHRC grant to continue their work on\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.manchestervoices.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(235, 33, 33)\" data-ogsb=\"rgb(255, 255, 255)\">Manchester Voices<\/a><span data-ogsb=\"rgb(255, 255, 255)\">\u00a0\u2013 a series of studies exploring the accents, dialects and identities of people in Greater Manchester. Rob and Erin also set up the ongoing\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/accentism.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(235, 33, 33)\" data-ogsb=\"rgb(255, 255, 255)\">Accentism Project<\/a><span data-ogsb=\"rgb(255, 255, 255)\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><em><strong>TOPIC: Creating outward-facing research: the importance of public engagement<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<p data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\">The focus of this workshop is research impact and public engagement. Public engagement helps universities maximise the benefits of their work to society, helping them to keep abreast of public concerns and expectations and supporting real-world problem-solving.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">This workshop is kindly sponsored by both our institutions and the registration fee will be \u00a34 for all students.<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>B<\/strong>ursaries<\/h2>\n<p>We have a number of bursaries available to assist with accommodation expenses to enable students to attend this workshop.
