We are delighted to announce the 2025 establishment of the North East Funerary Heritage Group (NEFHG), dedicated to fostering networking, learning, and collaboration on funerary heritage across the counties of Durham, Northumberland, and Tyne and Wear. Our mission is to bring together diverse voices and perspectives to deepen understanding and appreciation of this vital aspect of our shared history.
NEFHG complements the efforts of other organisations by offering locally-focused insights and leading initiatives that celebrate the unique funerary heritage of our region. Through community engagement and collaboration, we aim to create meaningful connections among public audiences, researchers, and heritage professionals.
Our group is passionate about preserving and researching funerary heritage while raising awareness of its cultural, historical, and social significance. This blog will serve as a platform for sharing updates, insights, and opportunities for involvement as we work to highlight the richness of the North East’s funerary past.
