Before you decide whether\nto participate, it is important for you to understand why the research is being\ndone and what it will involve. Please take time to read the following\ninformation carefully and feel free to ask us if you would like more\ninformation or if there is anything that you do not understand. Please also\nfeel free to discuss this with your friends, and relatives. We would like to\nstress that you do not have to accept this invitation and should only agree to\ntake part if you want to.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Thank\nyou for reading this.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Purpose\nof Study<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of this study is\nto gather information regarding GDPs experience of managing children with MIH\nin primary care. We are interested to know the challenges that may exist when\nmanaging these children and whether MIH is viewed as a clinically important\ncondition by GDPs. The findings of the study should inform postgraduate and undergraduate\nteaching on MIH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why have I been chosen to take part?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You have been chosen to take\npart as you are a GDP currently practicing within the UK who treats children as\npart of your normal practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Do I have to take part?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participation is voluntary and\nyou are free to withdraw at any time should you decide to participate, without\nexplanation, and without incurring a disadvantage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What will happen if I take part?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You have shown interest in\ntaking part and this is why this information document has been sent to you. If\nyou want to take part you should email the researcher to confirm you give\nconsent for this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once\nthis has been agreed, the researcher will contact you at a time convenient to\nyourself \u2013 either during an evening or weekend. She will introduce herself,\nconfirm consent again and explain what will happen during the call. She will\nremind you not to disclose any identifiable patient information, to protect\npatient confidentiality. She will also advise you that if information is\ndisclosed that calls into question the participants fitness to practice, the\nparticipant will be contacted by telephone again within in a week of the\ninterview to discuss the concern, and if serious, the General Dental Council\nwould be informed.<em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She will inform you when she\nwill start recording, at the start of the formal interviews. The researcher\nwill ask multiple questions about your experience of children with MIH, and you\nshould answer as honestly and fully as possible. This process will not take\nlonger than around 20 minutes. At the end she will thank you for your time and\nhang up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recorded telephone call\nwill be sent to a member of clerical staff at University of Liverpool, who will\ntranscribe the recording into text \u2013 no names will be used and therefore the\ndata will become anonymous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The researcher is a\npostgraduate student carrying out a research degree alongside speciality\ntraining in paediatric dentistry. She is supervised by experienced researchers\nin dentistry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A finite number of interviews\nwill take place. If a large number of potential participants return consent, it\nis possible not every person will be needed for interview. If you are not\nrequired to take part in the interview process, the researcher will inform you\nby email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How will my data be used?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>University of\nLiverpool is the sponsor for this study based in the United Kingdom. We will be\nusing information from you&nbsp;in\norder to undertake this study and will act as the data controller for this\nstudy. This means that we are responsible for looking after your information\nand using it properly. University of Liverpool will keep identifiable\ninformation about you until the study has been published and reparation of\nfurther grants has been completed, estimated to be around ten years. If you return consent but are not\nrequired for interview, your demographic details and consent will be stored\nuntil the researcher has completed the analysis of results and written the report\nfor this project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your rights to\naccess, change or move your information are limited, as we need to manage your\ninformation in specific ways in order for the research to be reliable and\naccurate. If you withdraw from the study, we will keep the information about\nyou that we have already obtained. To safeguard your rights, we will use the\nminimum personally-identifiable information possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further\ninformation regarding how your data will be used is found in the table below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>\n  How will my data be collected?\n  <\/td><td>\n  Recorded on a telephone\n  application\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  How will my data be stored?\n  <\/td><td>\n  As a sound file initially \u2013\n  once transcribed the sound file will be destroyed. Transcripts will be stored\n  on password protected university computers. The transcripts will be sent to\n  the lead researcher and destroyed by the staff who has transcribed it.\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  How long will my data be stored\n  for?\n  <\/td><td>\n  It will be held by University\n  of Liverpool until reparation of further grants estimated to be around 10\n  years.\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  What measures are in place to\n  protect the security and confidentiality of my data?\n  <\/td><td>\n  Information will be stored on a\n  password protected University computer in a locked office. \n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  Will my data be anonymised?\n  <\/td><td>\n  Yes\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  How will my data be used?\n  <\/td><td>\n  Qualitative analysis will be\n  used and the anonymised results will be presented at dental conferences and\n  in peer reviewed journals.\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  Who will have access to my\n  data?\n  <\/td><td>\n  Only the lead researcher, Sarah\n  Humphreys, will be able to access and view the data.\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  Will my data be archived for\n  use in other research projects in the future?\n  <\/td><td>\n  No\n  <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n  How will my data be destroyed?\n  <\/td><td>\n  Data will be safely destroyed\n  following university procedures.\n  <\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You can find out more about how we use your information by contacting\ns.j.humphreys@liverpool.ac.uk. Participants will be sent an online\nshopping voucher worth \u00a310 to thank them for taking part. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Are there any risks in\ntaking part?&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are no\nanticipated risks to participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Are there any benefits to\ntaking part?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the research\nidentifies learning needs within the population of GDPs in the UK, this will be\nused to improve teaching of MIH in dental schools at undergraduate and\npostgraduate levels, and within postgraduate continuing professional\ndevelopment courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What will happen to the\nresults of the study?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GDP that have\nparticipated in the study will be sent an email with a brief explanation of the\nresults once the study is complete. The results will be submitted for\npublishing in a peer reviewed dental journal and will be presented at dental\nconferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What will happen if I want\nto stop taking part?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participation is voluntary and\nyou are free to withdraw at any time should you decide to participate, without\nexplanation, and without incurring a disadvantage. If\nyou withdraw from the study, we will keep the information about you that we\nhave already obtained.
