{"id":313,"date":"2016-11-29T15:28:40","date_gmt":"2016-11-29T15:28:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/nutela\/?p=313"},"modified":"2017-03-22T16:50:57","modified_gmt":"2017-03-22T16:50:57","slug":"video-transcripts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/nutela\/2016\/11\/29\/video-transcripts\/","title":{"rendered":"Video Transcripts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As well as helping learners who are hard of hearing. \u00a0Captions and transcripts also help:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>non-native speakers<\/li>\n<li>people accessing resources on limited bandwidth<\/li>\n<li>those without soundcards or headphones<\/li>\n<li>people who prefer to read and annotate text<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In this activity we\u2019d like to show you how to add subtitles to a video on YouTube.\u00a0 You\u2019ll need a video, a script and a google account.<\/p>\n<p>Feel free to use the following example files that we used in the Nutela session.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Video: <a href=\"http:\/\/stream.ncl.ac.uk\/flash\/nuala.davis\/nutela\/transcripts_subtitles.mp4\">transcripts and subtitles (<\/a>right click and select<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/nutela\/files\/2016\/11\/videoscript.docx\">videoscript<\/a> save as)<\/li>\n<li>the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/nutela\/files\/2016\/11\/videoscript.docx\">videoscript<\/a>\u00a0(right click and select save as)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sign into YouTube with your own google account<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Upload the video to YouTube (look for the upload button in the top right), and click Publish when it is done<\/li>\n<li>Click on the Video manager button<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/nutela\/files\/2016\/11\/videomanager.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-319\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/nutela\/files\/2016\/11\/videomanager.png\" alt=\"videomanager\" width=\"132\" height=\"45\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click the drop down next to the video and select \u201c<strong>Subtitles &amp; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>(Our demo video is about how we generate subtitles when we don&#8217;t have a script.)<\/p>\n<h2>YouTube also has a function which automatically generates subtitles<\/h2>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t have a script for your video you may be able to make use of the automatic subtitles which YouTube adds to all videos.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In Subtitles &amp;
