What We Do

NU Women is run by its members for its members. We have a Steering Group which meets regularly throughout the year, and co-ordinates our events and ongoing activities. Our strategic aims are:

  • To support women working at Newcastle University in their careers.
  • To be a voice for women and feed into institutional structures.
  • To raise awareness around gender and diversity issues.
  • To build active communities and networks.

We represent our members’ views on key strategic committees in the University, and take opportunities to address key concerns of our members, for example, mentoring provision, childcare facilities and recruitment processes. We currently have around 600 members.

We run around 15 events across the year, including training events, talks, and campaigns. We organise a weekly Writing Space to support academic writing, and have a Professor’s Network to provide peer support for senior women across the University, and enable change more widely across the University.
