Who we are

The NU Women Steering Group brings together staff from different areas of the University. We organise the events and activities, manage the blog and twitter account, and work to achieve the aims of the network.

Dr Stacy Gillis – Chair of NU Women

Stacy Gillis is a Senior Lecturer in Modern and Contemporary Literature in the School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics. She is one of the convenors of the HASS Faculty’s Gender Research Group, one of the editors of Feminist Theory, and former Chair of the Womens Studies Assiociation (UK & Ireland). Her research interests are broadly concerned with gender and sexuality across the long twentieth century, with a particular focus on early twentieth-century British literature and culture.

Paula Fitzpatrick – Deputy Chair of NU Women

PaulaPaula Fitzpatrick is Head of Information Services in the University Library, where she maintains the library systems such as Library Search. Paula has a degree in Librarianship  from Manchester and an MSc in Computing Science from Newcastle. Prior to joining Newcastle, Paula worked at the House of Commons Library and at Northumbria University. Paula has three children and it was the birth of her children which ignited the interest in the role of women in the workplace and how gender issues surround the work-life balance everyone craves. She has been working with NU Women to set up and maintain the blog and is especially interested in engendering confidence in women in the workplace.

Additional members of the Steering Group to be added imminently.
