After initially contributing to the pioneering<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bl.uk\/collections\/nlsc-food-from-source-to-salespoint\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bl.uk\/collections\/nlsc-food-from-source-to-salespoint\"> <em>Food: from Source to Salespoint<\/em>,<\/a> she went on to run <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bl.uk\/sound-and-vision\/2017\/08\/tesco-an-oral-history.html\"><em>Tesco: An Oral History<\/em>. <\/a>Today, she is director of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bl.uk\/projects\/national-life-stories-architects-lives\">Architects\u2019 Lives<\/a><\/em>, which is an oral history of architecture and the built environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Niamh is particularly interested in questions of migration, empire and identity. Her recent book, <a href=\"https:\/\/nyupress.org\/9781479817313\/homeward-bound\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/nyupress.org\/9781479817313\/homeward-bound\"><em>Homeward Bound: return migration from Ireland and India at the end of the British Empire<\/em><\/a> (NYU Press, 2022) is a comparative study which uses first-hand testimony to investigate individual and collective narratives of belonging in the late British Empire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Niamh works with institutions to promote the use of oral history including archival collections.&nbsp;She has given annual seminars at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aaschool.ac.uk\/\">Architectural Association<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rca.ac.uk\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.rca.ac.uk\/\">Royal College of Art. <\/a>She has also led seminars for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.londonmet.ac.uk\/schools\/art-architecture-and-design\/\">Kingston University School of Art, <\/a>the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getty.edu\/projects\/keeping-it-modern\/\">Getty\u2019s \u2018Keeping it Modern<\/a>\u2019 series, and Leiden University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her interest in oral history was sparked while volunteering at the Haringey Irish Centre in London. She subsequently worked as a researcher at Croydon Clocktower (one of the first museums to integrate oral history into its exhibition galleries) and in television, on documentaries, including the Academy Award-winning <em>Into the Arms of Strangers: stories of the Kindertransport. <\/em>Niamh completed an MA in Film Studies at UCL and a PhD in History at Goldsmiths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Niamh chairs the monthly Oral History Collective Reading Group.
