It may seem strange that, under lockdown conditions where I could have digitally dwelt in all kinds of different landscapes, I keep coming back to one which contains the carcasses of two nuclear reactors. The landscape is beautiful (Snowdonia is beautiful), but here at Trawsfynydd, in addition to the beauty, there’s a sense that the landscape is rich with ideas, even brimming with ideas, about how accommodating a landscape might be, and what possibilities it affords, and how features can be soundly made in a place like this. And the possibility (probability?) that those ideas didn’t work doesn’t make the encountering of them less compelling.

“Llyn Trawsfynydd” by peterlepping is licensed under CC BY-NC 2.0

“Maentwrog New Dam” by Roj is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 2.0

“Trawsfynydd” by papalamour is licensed under CC BY-NC 2.0

“Trawsfynydd Nuclear Power Station” by John Aldersey-Williams is licensed under CC BY-SA 2.0

I’ll be adding more content here soon…
