{"id":598,"date":"2018-09-06T11:04:19","date_gmt":"2018-09-06T11:04:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/philosophy\/?p=598"},"modified":"2018-09-06T11:04:19","modified_gmt":"2018-09-06T11:04:19","slug":"philosophy-of-improvisation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/philosophy-blog\/2018\/09\/06\/philosophy-of-improvisation\/","title":{"rendered":"Philosophy of Improvisation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1536231736111_2298\"><b id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1536231736111_2314\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1536231736111_2313\">Philosophy of Improvisation Workshop: The Aesthetics of Imperfection<\/span><\/b><br \/>\n6th-7th October 2018, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK<\/p>\n<p>A collaboration between academics, musicians and arts practitioners, this two-day workshop examines a central issue of creativity in music and other arts: improvisation and spontaneity.<\/p>\n<p>The idea of an\u00a0<i id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1536231736111_2315\">aesthetics of imperfection<\/i>\u00a0is explored by jazz and improvising musicians, interpreters and composers in Western and non-Western music \u2013 plus practitioners from other art forms.<\/p>\n<p>The contrast is between process and product, the unfinished and finished work, spontaneity and structure.
