{"id":1849,"date":"2009-01-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2009-01-12T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/wptest\/2009\/01\/12\/a-foucauldian-investigation-into-conceptions-and-opinions-of-tattooing-held-by-the-british-general-society-in-the-present-day\/"},"modified":"2009-01-12T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2009-01-12T00:00:00","slug":"a-foucauldian-investigation-into-conceptions-and-opinions-of-tattooing-held-by-the-british-general-society-in-the-present-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/philosophy\/2009\/01\/12\/a-foucauldian-investigation-into-conceptions-and-opinions-of-tattooing-held-by-the-british-general-society-in-the-present-day\/","title":{"rendered":"A Foucauldian Investigation into Conceptions and Opinions of Tattooing held by the British General Society in the Present Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My\u00a0Stage\u00a0three\u00a0project\u00a0is\u00a0a\u00a0Foucauldian\u00a0investigation\u00a0into\u00a0tattooing\u00a0in\u00a0England\u00a0 in\u00a0the\u00a0present\u00a0day.\u00a0I\u00a0have\u00a0based\u00a0my\u00a0research\u00a0around\u00a0Foucault\u2019s\u00a0theories\u00a0of\u00a0 power,\u00a0history\u00a0and\u00a0governmentality.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0have\u00a0also\u00a0investigated\u00a0psychological\u00a0and\u00a0social\u00a0theories\u00a0that\u00a0relate\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0Foucauldian\u00a0ideas\u00a0of\u00a0power\u00a0and\u00a0governmentality.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>From\u00a0working\u00a0through\u00a0my\u00a0investigation,\u00a0I\u00a0decided\u00a0that\u00a0I\u00a0should\u00a0make\u00a0history\u00a0the\u00a0greatest\u00a0aspect\u00a0of\u00a0my\u00a0analysis,\u00a0and\u00a0that\u00a0allowed\u00a0me\u00a0an\u00a0insight\u00a0into\u00a0collective\u00a0notions\u00a0in\u00a0what\u00a0I\u00a0termed\u00a0the\u00a0\u201cgeneral\u00a0society\u201d\u00a0and\u00a0this\u00a0 has\u00a0made\u00a0up\u00a0the\u00a0main\u00a0body\u00a0of\u00a0my\u00a0work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0have\u00a0also\u00a0investigated\u00a0how\u00a0the\u00a0view\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0tattooed\u00a0community\u00a0has\u00a0changed,\u00a0as\u00a0well\u00a0as\u00a0investigating\u00a0where\u00a0negative\u00a0opinions\u00a0held\u00a0by\u00a0the\u00a0societies\u00a0at\u00a0each\u00a0point\u00a0in\u00a0history\u00a0originated\u00a0from.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0have\u00a0discovered\u00a0through\u00a0my\u00a0investigation\u00a0that\u00a0negative\u00a0attitudes\u00a0towards\u00a0tattooing\u00a0stem\u00a0from\u00a0the\u00a0orthodox\u00a0Judeo-Christian\u00a0belief\u00a0that\u00a0the\u00a0Body\u00a0is\u00a0the\u00a0property\u00a0of\u00a0God,\u00a0and\u00a0that\u00a0to\u00a0scar\u00a0or\u00a0tattoo\u00a0it\u00a0is\u00a0a\u00a0sin\u00a0against\u00a0God.\u00a0Tattooed\u00a0Jews\u00a0are\u00a0still\u00a0not\u00a0allowed\u00a0the\u00a0same\u00a0burial\u00a0rites\u00a0as\u00a0non\u2010tattooed\u00a0Jews.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0project\u00a0represents\u00a0a\u00a0new\u00a0understanding\u00a0of\u00a0tattooing\u00a0as\u00a0a\u00a0genealogical\u00a0 entity,\u00a0as\u00a0much\u00a0has\u00a0been\u00a0written\u00a0about\u00a0the\u00a0social,\u00a0psychological\u00a0and\u00a0 anthropological\u00a0impact\u00a0of\u00a0allowing\u00a0tattooing\u00a0in\u00a0civilised\u00a0society.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Olivia Whittaker, 2009, Stage 3<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8792,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[540,22,123],"tags":[223,44,543],"class_list":["post-1849","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-540","category-abstracts","category-stage-3-abstracts","tag-art","tag-foucault","tag-tattoos"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/philosophy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1849","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/philosophy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/philosophy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/philosophy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/8792"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/philosophy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1849"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/philosophy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1849\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/philosophy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1849"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/philosophy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1849"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/philosophy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1849"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
