{"id":2116,"date":"2014-01-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-01-12T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/wptest\/2023\/09\/06\/existential-authenticity-a-look-at-authenticity-in-the-life-and-work-of-nick-drake\/"},"modified":"2014-01-12T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2014-01-12T00:00:00","slug":"existential-authenticity-a-look-at-authenticity-in-the-life-and-work-of-nick-drake-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/philosophy\/2014\/01\/12\/existential-authenticity-a-look-at-authenticity-in-the-life-and-work-of-nick-drake-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Existential Authenticity: A Look at Authenticity in the Life and Work of Nick Drake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Despite Drake\u2019s lack of commercial success during his lifetime, he produced music that today is recognised as some of the most influential in its genre.  <\/p>\n<p>By providing a look at his life, work and personality, I will try to show that Drake demonstrates qualities of Sartrean authenticity.  <\/p>\n<p>The essay will consist of a struggle in which I try to identify \u2018positive\u2019 characteristics of authenticity, e.g. \u201coriginality\u201d, \u201cdisregard for external pressure\u201d etc.  <\/p>\n<p>I will go on to adapt an existential approach in order to define authenticity \u201cnegatively\u201d, or what authenticity is not.  <\/p>\n<p>I will try to pin down what exactly we mean when we say, \u201cthis music is authentic\u201d by taking a closer look at Drake\u2019s musical technique.
