About
The Phonetics/Phonology Unconference on Pedagogy (Phon-UP) is a radical space for investigating innovative and effective methods and approaches to teaching phonetics and phonology.
Our primary disciplinary focus is phonetics and phonology but we welcome participants from all areas.
What is an unconference?
A conference typically has a hierarchy, a strict structure, and a set agenda. An unconference is instead led by the participants. While the organisers have some particular topics and questions to serve as a springboard for discussion, the direction and the agenda (such that it exists) for the day will be determined by the participants.
Programme
As an unconference, there is no formal programme. However, the organisers have a suggested framework for the day, which can be adopted, modified, or rejected by the participants:
- Before lunch:
- Practical methods, tips and tricks
- Deepening knowledge on specific topics / staying up to date with developments in the field
- Bigger picture questions about the nature of learning etc
- After lunch:
- General discussion, based on our shared experiences of the first session
Participants are encouraged to bring their own questions and topics for exploration too. The structure of the day will be determined by the participants on the day itself.
Registration
Registration will open at a later date.
