Accent is an important part of how people communicate and express identity. In Higher Education (HE), accents can also shape how individuals are perceived, judged, or treated by others. As a research group, we have had a particular interest in accent and social justice over the last few years and ran a workshop in 2022<\/a> on this theme. <\/p>\n\n\n\n More recently we have been considering linguistic diversity and accent bias in higher education with plans in motion to conduct a large-scale survey later this year. Before launching our research, we are planning another workshop on 24th<\/sup> June 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This workshop will focus on work on linguistic diversity in the workplace but also anything else surrounding the topic of accent and social justice. Presentations will be on proposed, in-progress, or completed work, and will be 15 minutes + 5 minutes Q&A. Participation will be hybrid online and in person. <\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n
