    My research lies in the areas of Arabic phonetics-phonology, monolingual and bilingual phonological acquisition, and sociophonetics. My work also spans adult and child phonology. In my work with adults I have carried out phonetic investigations of Arabic sound patterns which not only provide insight into how these sounds are produced, but also address their mental representation at higher levels of the grammar (phonology, syntax, and morphology). My work with children has two strands. First, I explore the acquisition of multiple dialects by immigrant children within each of their languages. Second, with younger children I explore the transition from phonetics to phonology, examining the earliest signs of emergence of adult-like phonology. This includes looking at morpho-phonology, since morphology and phonology in Arabic are intertwined.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
