{"id":110,"date":"2015-02-20T18:53:08","date_gmt":"2015-02-20T18:53:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/katarzynapirog\/?p=110"},"modified":"2024-10-01T16:07:20","modified_gmt":"2024-10-01T15:07:20","slug":"genetics-matters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/piroglab\/2015\/02\/20\/genetics-matters\/","title":{"rendered":"Genetics Matters! 27th February 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This year\u00a0 for <strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rarediseaseday.org\">Rare Disease Day 2015<\/a> <\/span><\/strong>we helped organise and will be participating in the <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff\">Genetics Matters<\/span><\/strong> event at the Great North Museum in Newcastle:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mikebriggs1910.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/02\/genetics-matters1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1964\" src=\"https:\/\/mikebriggs1910.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/02\/genetics-matters1.jpg?w=625&amp;h=486\" alt=\"Genetics Matters\" width=\"625\" height=\"486\" \/><\/a>We will be presenting our best research in genetics and rare diseases, answering questions, engaging in debates and presenting hands on research tables. There are over 7,000 known rare diseases, most of which are genetic.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">1 in 17 people will be affected by a rare disease at some point in their lives. This amounts to a staggering 3.5 million people in the UK alone!
