“OK, so what about China?”

After briefly outlining my research and methodology on US imaginations of China, I will present an intertextual critique of a 2015 speech by US Defense Secretary Ash Carter on the US rebalance to the Asia-Pacific and what it embodies about the historical legacies of US narratives about China.
