This week has seen the move of Fine Art, Architecture, Music Books and Scores from Level 3 to Level 4 in the Robinson Library. This move has allowed us to shelve our collection of music books and scores together for the first time.
As part of the summer refurbishment, we will be making it easier to find books in the library by creating a single (Dewey) sequence of books, with shelfmarks 000-599 being shelved on Level 3 and shelfmarks 600-999 being shelved on Level 4. We have started rearranging the shelving layouts on Levels 3 and 4 to accommodate this and library staff started moving books to their new locations last week.
Books at shelfmarks 700-799 (Fine Art, Architecture, Music, Performing Arts) are currently being moved to their new location on Level 4.
Books at shelfmarks 100-199, 200-299, 340-399 have been moved to a temporary location on Level 4, before being moved to Level 3 when shelving becomes available later in the project. Books at shelfmarks 500-570 are also being moved today.
This is quite a complicated process which involves moving every book in the library. If you need help finding the books you want, please ask a member of library staff.
Library staff who work in many of the offices on Level 3 and 4 of the Robinson Library have temporarily moved for the duration of the refurbishment works.

Building work is starting on Level 3 and Level 4 in the Robinson Library today. Contractors are putting up hoardings around the study spaces that are going to be refurbished this summer.
Our Reference (and Research Reference) books are being moved temporarily to Level 1. Our Study Skills books, Academic Practice books and our printed collection of Engineering Standards will remain on Level 4 at present.
All the books in the Robinson Library will remain accessible throughout the refurbishment period. If you need help in finding the books you need, please ask a member of library staff.
During the Robinson Library refurbishment, additional quiet study space is available elsewhere on campus for all students to use.
This week’s quiet room is..
Teaching Room F1, (1.01) 1st Floor Stephenson Building (University map ref:50)
This room will be available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Don’t forget that students are able to study in the Walton and Law libraries too.
The Robinson Library refurbishment will begin next week, with preparatory work taking place in the building this week.
Shelving is being constructed and moved on both Level 3 and Level 4, so please be aware that these areas will not be as quiet as usual.
Additional quiet study space is being created on Level 1. You might also choose to study in the Walton or Law Libraries and further quiet study rooms have been provided elsewhere on campus. This week’s quiet room is Teaching Room T1, 3rd Floor Stephenson Building (University map ref:50).
