{"id":151,"date":"2016-04-05T11:50:21","date_gmt":"2016-04-05T10:50:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/slsncl\/?p=151"},"modified":"2016-04-12T12:53:27","modified_gmt":"2016-04-12T11:53:27","slug":"baap-conference-2016-yiling-chen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/slsncl\/2016\/04\/05\/baap-conference-2016-yiling-chen\/","title":{"rendered":"BAAP Conference 2016 (Yiling Chen)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Yiling Chen is an IPhD Phonetics and Phonology student who has kindly written a short account about her\u00a0recent visit to BAAP.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/slsncl\/files\/2016\/04\/Untitled-1.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-153\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-153\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/slsncl\/files\/2016\/04\/Untitled-1.jpg\" alt=\"Untitled-1\" width=\"720\" height=\"587\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/slsncl\/files\/2016\/04\/Untitled-1.jpg 720w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/slsncl\/files\/2016\/04\/Untitled-1-300x245.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/slsncl\/files\/2016\/04\/Untitled-1-368x300.jpg 368w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>It has been a wonderful experience presenting a paper at the 2016 BAAP Colloquium (British Association of Academic Phoneticians) which took place on 30 March \u2014 1 April.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I fully enjoyed this 3-day event where many interesting talks were delivered by active phoneticians from a wide range of areas such as speech and language therapy, speech acquisition, speech technology and forensic science, etc. I have benefited a lot not just from a lively discussion following my presentation, but also from the socialization with other members in which we exchanged our ideas and shared our experience of researching.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I personally think the conference was well organized and very successful. The next colloquium will be held <\/em>by<em> the University of Kent in 2018. It is worth being a part of it for anyone who endeavors to pursue an academic career in phonetics and speech sciences, particularly graduate students.
