Coll 030 GRE)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The below extract is taken from Kate Greenaway&#8217;s 1890 almanack and describes the seasons through rhyme and accompanying illustrations&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;SPRING<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The lambs are playing, and the day<br \/>\nIs sweetly scented with the May.<\/p>\n<p>Summer<\/p>\n<p>The sun is warm, but sweetly cool<br \/>\nThe waters of the rippling pool.<\/p>\n<p>AUTUMN<\/p>\n<p>The corn is cut, and on the bough<br \/>\nAre reddest apples hanging now.<\/p>\n<p><em>WINTER<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The cold is keen, for north winds blow,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>And softly falling comes the snow.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Catherine Greenaway (1846\u00a0\u2013 1901), known as Kate Greenaway, was an English\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Children's book\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Children%27s_book\">children\u2019s book<\/a>\u00a0illustrator\u00a0and writer.\u00a0Her\u00a0almanacs ran from 1883 up until 1897, with no 1896 issue being published. Each almanacks included a Jan-Dec calendar, beautifully drawn illustrations and short poems.
