{"id":2968,"date":"2021-06-02T16:15:43","date_gmt":"2021-06-02T16:15:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/speccoll\/?p=2968"},"modified":"2021-06-21T14:24:27","modified_gmt":"2021-06-21T14:24:27","slug":"the-hatton-gallery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/speccoll\/2021\/06\/02\/the-hatton-gallery\/","title":{"rendered":"The Hatton Gallery"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Hatton Gallery is named in honour of Professor Richard George Hatton, the first Head of the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/speccoll\/2021\/06\/02\/king-edward-vii-building\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/speccoll\/2021\/06\/02\/king-edward-vii-building\/\">King Edward VII School of Art<\/a>.&nbsp;The gallery is part of the King Edward VII building,&nbsp;which opened in 1912.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"534\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/speccoll\/files\/2021\/06\/63175.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/speccoll\/files\/2021\/06\/63175.jpg 534w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/speccoll\/files\/2021\/06\/63175-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 534px) 100vw, 534px\" \/><figcaption>Hatton 2018, http:\/\/www.picturesbybish.com\/ | https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/picturesbybish\/, photographed by Chris Bishop<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>With the outbreak of the First World War&nbsp;in 1914,&nbsp;the King Edward VII building,&nbsp;along with other University buildings,&nbsp;was&nbsp;requisitioned by the&nbsp;War&nbsp;Office as a&nbsp;part of the First Northern General Hospital, a&nbsp;military hospital for wounded service personnel.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the most recognisable photographs in Special Collections to visitors of the Hatton Gallery is Ward C1&nbsp;of&nbsp;the First Northern General&nbsp;Hospital.
