The University\u2019s <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/elll\/research\/literature\/childrens.htm\"><strong>Children\u2019s Literature Unit<\/strong><\/a><strong> would particularly welcome applications for this funding to study our children\u2019s literature collections.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Newcastle University\u2019s Research Excellence Academy PhD Studentships<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Each studentship covers tuition fees and living expenses for the three years of your PhD studies. There are two schemes available:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences: <\/strong>This scheme covers a number of academic subjects, including English Literature. This funding would particularly suit cross-disciplinary research proposals. The deadline for applications is 30<sup>th<\/sup> April 2016. The department are also offering extra support to international applicants. The deadline for applications is 5pm on 16<sup>th<\/sup> May 2016. As well as the Booktrust collection of contemporary children\u2019s books, we hold a number of Special Collections children\u2019s literature.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Britnell Collection<\/strong> A collection of late 19th and early 20th Century children&#8217;s literature, focusing on literacy, language, and moral instruction.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/library\/special-collections\/collections\/collection_details.php?id=111\"><strong>Burnett Collection<\/strong><\/a> A collection of children\u2019s books and annuals published in the early to mid-20<sup>th<\/sup> century. Includes <em>Timothy\u2019s Quest<\/em> (1900) and <em>Girl\u2019s Fun Annual<\/em> (1952).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/library\/special-collections\/collections\/collection_details.php?id=111\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-589 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/speccoll\/files\/2016\/04\/burnett-professor-mark-collection.jpg\" alt=\"burnett-professor-mark-collection\" width=\"228\" height=\"305\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/library\/special-collections\/collections\/collection_details.php?id=113\"><strong>Butler Collection<\/strong><\/a> Includes 18<sup>th<\/sup> century pamphlets, books by the likes of Daniel Defoe and J.M. Barrie and titles illustrated by Randolph Caldecott.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/library\/special-collections\/collections\/collection_details.php?id=113\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-590 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/speccoll\/files\/2016\/04\/butler-joan-collection.jpg\" alt=\"butler-joan-collection\" width=\"289\" height=\"322\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Davin Collection<\/strong> Contemporary editions of popular children\u2019s literature largely from the early 20<sup>th<\/sup> Century. Also includes catalogues and critical responses to children\u2019s literature.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/library\/special-collections\/collections\/collection_details.php?id=114\"><strong>Chorley Collection<\/strong><\/a> Children\u2019s literature chiefly from the 19<sup>th<\/sup> century. Includes Kate Greenaway\u2019s Almanack for 1884, R. M. Ballantyne\u2019s <em>The Coral Island<\/em> and the work of Randolph Caldecott.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/library\/special-collections\/collections\/collection_details.php?id=114\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-591 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/speccoll\/files\/2016\/04\/chorley-sarah-collection.jpg\" alt=\"chorley-sarah-collection\" width=\"350\" height=\"304\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/speccoll\/files\/2016\/04\/chorley-sarah-collection.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/speccoll\/files\/2016\/04\/chorley-sarah-collection-300x261.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/speccoll\/files\/2016\/04\/chorley-sarah-collection-345x300.jpg 345w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/library\/special-collections\/collections\/collection_details.php?id=118\"><strong>Meade Collection<\/strong><\/a> Around 180 books by L.T. Meade which were published between 1878 and 2003.
