Our toolkit<\/a> of new and improved actions is out, we\u2019ve updated our information pages<\/a> (where you can find key dates and resources) and we\u2019re hosting a launch webinar on Thursday the 18<\/strong>th<\/sup><\/strong> of September<\/strong><\/a>.  <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This webinar<\/a> will have all you need to get started, whether you\u2019re new, returning, or just investigating whether to get involved. Either way, we\u2019d be delighted to have you join us.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How did the toolkit help?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe became aware of the different steps we could take to operate more sustainably as a team, such as hosting events which integrated sustainability as part of the planning. We also discovered\u202fthat there were areas that we were already doing successfully without really being aware of them\u201d – Rachael Gray from, NIHR Newcastle BRC <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s your advice for getting started?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cStart small and find 5 practical and easy solutions and move forward from there. Pass the message, on a one-to-one basis; rather than placing notices on corridors, a personal conversation is advantageous for the team (if only reputational!) as it can be more effective.\u201d <\/em> – Carmen Martin-Ruiz, Bioscreening Core Facility <\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s the biggest change your team made?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n

\u201cOur infrastructure team now include regular sustainability checks in their scheduled building walkarounds, including fridge temperature checks, radiator checks, bin audits and push-tap checks. These now happen as a matter of course and have been embedded into the day-to-day tasks of the team.\u201d – Katy Sawyer, SNES <\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Last year we had 16 teams participate, 9 achieve an award and 5 of those reach Gold! Due to this high level of gold awardees, this year we\u2019ve introduced the \u201cPlatinum Award<\/strong>\u201d. Could your team be the first Newcastle University Platinum Award winners?  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
