Wildlife includes any organism that has not been planted or looked after by humans.&nbsp;Focus on&nbsp;finding&nbsp;bugs,&nbsp;birds&nbsp;and weeds instead of planted flowers and trees or animals that are looked after by humans.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Upload your observations&nbsp;to&nbsp;iNaturalist&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Identifying:<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Find the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inaturalist.org\/projects\/city-nature-challenge-2026-north-east-england\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">City Nature Challenge 2026: North East England Project<\/a>&nbsp;on&nbsp;iNaturalist&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to the Observations tab&nbsp;and click \u2018Identify\u2019<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Filter the results by&nbsp;\u2018Casual\u2019&nbsp;and&nbsp;\u2018Needs ID\u2019&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Search through&nbsp;the results and find an observation you may be able to add in identification too, click the image and use the \u2018Add ID\u2019 button, type in what you think it may be \u2013 this can be broad. Save your identification\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a.  Add identifications&nbsp;to the&nbsp;taxonomic level that you are&nbsp;confident of, use the evidence provided in the observation.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>b. Observations can be uploaded via the mobile app or the webpage.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table aligncenter\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Making an observation&nbsp;with the app\u202f&nbsp;<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Making an observation&nbsp;on the website&nbsp;<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Open the&nbsp;iNaturalist&nbsp;Classic app and tap \u201cObserve.\u201d&nbsp;<\/td><td>Log in at&nbsp;iNaturalist&nbsp;and click the green \u201cUpload\u201d button in the header.&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Add one or more photos or sounds as evidence&nbsp;<\/td><td>Drag in one or more photos or use the \u201cAdd\u201d button to manually create observation cards.&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Choose what you saw \u2013 either from suggested species or by searching. If you are unsure, you can keep the label as simple as \u201cplant\u201d or \u201cinsect.\u201d&nbsp;<\/td><td>Choose what you saw from suggestions or by searching. If yes, mark the finding as \u2018captive\/cultivated\u2019&nbsp;as this is not a wild observation.&nbsp;<\/td><td>Enter a location and adjust the map marker and accuracy circle as needed.&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Tap \u201cSave\u201d,&nbsp;then \u201cUpload\u201d to share your observation.&nbsp;<\/td><td>Does the plant look like it was planted or is looked after by a human? If yes, mark the finding as \u2018captive\/cultivated\u2019 as this is not a wild observation.&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Once uploaded, others in the&nbsp;iNaturalist&nbsp;community can help refine the identification.&nbsp;<\/td><td>Once all details are added, click \u201cSubmit.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Please note: Non-wild observations need to be marked as captive\/cultivated on&nbsp;iNaturalist<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional&nbsp;guidance<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>iNaturalist&nbsp;have\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1mZ6xeVIwm3RgCx8pPxLcfR2vxPruU4Df\/view\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shared a slideshow<\/a>\u202fthat&nbsp;contains&nbsp;helpful tips about how to make a good observation.
