Other content templates are available for <a title=\"People Profiles and Staff Lists\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/t4\/2014\/01\/23\/people-profiles-and-staff-lists\/\">Staff Profiles<\/a>, News and Events, etc.<\/p>\n<p>This page discusses the <strong>News<\/strong> and <strong>Events<\/strong> templates &#8211; both behave in a very similar way but have different selections of fields to display. The examples will be from the News template.<\/p>\n<p>This page also discusses <strong>sorting content<\/strong>, setting <strong>archive<\/strong> and <strong>expiry dates<\/strong> that are particularly relevant to sites which have a high turnover of news, but the controls discussed will work on all kinds of content.<\/p>\n<h2>News and Events<\/h2>\n<p><a represents a single webpage, but in the case of Staff, News and Events, multiple pieces of content appear on the page and clicking on their titles opens up a new page.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>Name<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Brief Description<\/strong>\u00a0appear in your news list, when you click on the title or the image, the visitor is taken to a new page containing the full text of the\u00a0<strong>Main Body<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As with the\u00a0<a title=\"People Profiles and Staff Lists\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/t4\/2014\/01\/23\/people-profiles-and-staff-lists\/\">Staff Profile content type<\/a>, the\u00a0<strong>Picture<\/strong>\u00a0you upload is resized both for the list and for use within the news item.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/t4\/files\/2014\/01\/news-list.fw_.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you can see from the list though, our content has been automatically added to the bottom of the page (as it does when you add any new piece of content to a page).<\/p>\n<h2>Automatic Ordering<\/h2>\n<p>With news you want the items to automatically order by date &#8211; and with staff you probably want automatic ordering by name.<\/p>\n<p>You can do this by going to \u00a0<strong>Modify Content<\/strong> within the news section.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/t4\/files\/2014\/01\/Screen-shot-2014-01-23-at-18.44.31.png\"><img sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Click the checkbox marked <strong>Automatic Ordering<\/strong>. Choose the type of ordering you want (by updated, created or alphabetically), and uncheck the locks next to each piece of content. The ordering will update on your website next time this section is published.<\/p>\n<h2>Automatic Archiving and Delayed Publishing<\/h2>\n<p>Automatic Archiving moves news into a chosen section at a given date. Add a section called Archive to your news Section. You can choose to make this a hidden section by unchecking the &#8216;Show in Navigation&#8217; box.
