His 35 year management career included posts as CEO and clinical and business directorships. He specialised in turnaround, greenfield development and major service change.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst in the North East he led the team at St Oswald\u2019s Hospice developing and gaining approval for Medical Training from first degree through to Foundation, GP\u00a0 and Specialty Training.\u00a0 Delivering a large capital fundraising projects of a \u00a35.2 million for Children\u2019s Hospice, an Education Centre Service and a \u00a32m new Day Hospice building, whilst simultaneously running a\u00a0 \u00a310million per year Adult inpatient care service and developing palliative care services in the surrounding 5 NHS Acute and Community Trusts across Northumberland and Tyneside.<\/p>\n<p>Moving on and supposedly looking toward retirement he went on to become Associate Director with the North East Change Centre working predominantly with the Health Education Northern East to co-leading the Medical Leadership and Management Development Programme for the next 7 years.<\/p>\n<p>Moving to Cheshire in 2013 with his wife Julie to be closer to their large extended family he now chairs the Board of Trustees for a Healthcare Charity and more recently is involved in the turnaround of a very ailing health organisation serving one of Britain\u2019s poorest communities.<\/p>\n<p>He admits to being an eternal optimist (and probably an adrenalin junkie) and believes passionately that being \u2018pulled by the vision\u2019 is far preferable than being \u2018pushed by the problem.\u2019<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Richard originally trained as clinician and spent over 45 years in health care within the NHS, Private and Charity sectors across the country in Psychiatry, General and Hospice specialities.
