Venue and Accessibility

The symposium will be held in the Frederick Douglass Centre, which is located at the Newcastle Helix Square, in central Newcastle.

The address is: Frederick Douglass Centre, Helix Science Square, Newcastle upon Tyne NE4 5TG, United Kingdom

The event will take place in the first floor of this building, in room FDC 1.17. The room is accessible either by the central stairwell (to the right of the reception desk), or the lifts. On the day, we will signpost directions to the room from both these locations.

The exact room layout will be adjusted on the day, but for those of you who like to get a sneak preview of the place they are presenting in, here are some pictures:

Accessibility

The venue for the symposium is located a 10-15 minute (slightly uphill) walk from Newcastle Central Station. If travelling directly from the station, you may wish to get a taxi from the taxi rank located outside the station. Alternatively, you can book a taxi in advance, to take you from the station or your place of accommodation, through one of the local taxi service companies (e.g. Newcastle Taxis).

The room the symposium will be held in is located on a first floor, but the building is fully accessible, and includes a lift and accessible toilet facilities.

For those attending online, the symposium will be held in an online meeting platform like Zoom or Microsoft Teams, both of which include accessibility features like live captioning. More information on this will be shared closer to the event.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding accessibility at and during the symposium, please contact David Ventura (david.ventura@ncl.ac.uk).
