Password is \u2018student\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"launchpt\"><a><\/a><a><\/a>Launching Pro Tools<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"initialising-neve\">Launch Pro Tools by selecting it on the hidden dock which can be found by hovering the mouse at the bottom of the screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"initneve\"><a><\/a><a><\/a>Initialising the Neve 8424<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Before beginning any session, initialise the Neve 8424 Console by following these instructions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\" id=\"the-dashboard\"><li>Select [SYSTEM] on the small screen using the arrow &gt; keys<\/li><li>Press the [RETURN] button to accept<\/li><li>Select [LOAD], then [RETURN]<\/li><li>Ensure LOAD # is [1], then select [OK] and accept This will load the default console settings for Studio One.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"dash\">The Dashboard &amp; Pro Tools Session Templates<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two templates created for Studio One, both available in the \u2018CREATE\u2019 tab of the Pro Tools Dashboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>HYBRID WORKFLOW: Discrete channels are output from Pro Tools to the Neve console, allowing for an analogue-style workflow and enabling outboard gear to be inserted into the signal flow. In this mode, you are somewhat limited to the number of physical channels on the desk.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>IN THE BOX WORKFLOW: \u2018In the box\u2019 (ITB) mode uses the console like a control surface, with the main output from Pro Tools routing direct to the Mix Bus. It is also possible to route groups to the Neve 8424 in order to utilise the \u2018sound\u2019 of the desk\u2019s transformers.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"sample-rate\">It is also possible to combine these workflows, but the two templates provided are good starting points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"io\"><a><\/a><a><\/a>Correct I\/O Settings<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"switching-inputs\">This stands for \u2018in\/out settings\u2019. Select \u2018Studio 1\u2019 from the dashboard when starting your session to ensure that the internal and external routing is correct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"neveins\"><a><\/a><a><\/a>Switching Inputs on the Neve 8424<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>The Neve 8424 has two sets of inputs &#8211; \u2018Channels A\u2019 and \u2018Channels B\u2019. To change between them, use the switch found in the \u2018master\u2019 section (see pic)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"204\" height=\"364\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/themusicstudios\/files\/2022\/10\/image-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/themusicstudios\/files\/2022\/10\/image-3.png 204w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/themusicstudios\/files\/2022\/10\/image-3-168x300.png 168w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 204px) 100vw, 204px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>INPUT CHANNEL B : The buttons will turn ORANGE, indicating the desk channels will receive audio from the analogue domain (i.e. pre-amps, mics, line inputs and external rack equipment).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"headphone-mix\">You will need to change this depending on whether you are tracking (i.e. recording) or playing back tracks already recorded into Pro Tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"hphones\"><a><\/a><a><\/a>How To Create A Headphone Mix<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>Typically, headphone (or Cue) mixes are sent PRE-FADER to the artist. This means that signals are sent before they get to the main faders. In this way, two independent mixes can be set. One for the performer, another for the engineer\/producer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Headphone Cue mix in Studio One can be assigned in numerous ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Within the software. <\/strong>Pro Tools has the Headphone Cue configured on SEND A. Any level adjustments made with the small fader in Pro Tools will be reflected in the headphone mix ONLY.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"269\" height=\"257\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/themusicstudios\/files\/2022\/10\/image-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-246\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This mix is sent equally to all headphones connected in the LIVE ROOM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"179\" height=\"319\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/themusicstudios\/files\/2022\/10\/image-5.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-247\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/themusicstudios\/files\/2022\/10\/image-5.png 179w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/themusicstudios\/files\/2022\/10\/image-5-168x300.png 168w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 179px) 100vw, 179px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Using STEREO CUE from the desk. <\/strong>If you are monitoring channels through the desk, it is possible to send a Cue Mix using the ST CUE pots. By default, these are PRE-FADER. The send just needs to be activated by pressing the ST CUE pot until the green LED shows <strong>ON <\/strong>(see picture, left)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This mix is sent equally to all headphones connected in the LIVE ROOM, and can additionally be monitored in the CONTROL ROOM using the Engineer Headphone 2 (EHP2) socket found under the righthand side of the console.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"auout\">Getting Audio Out Of Pro Tools<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>All outputs from Pro Tools are returned through the Neve 8424.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Generic Stereo Output<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u2018Stereo Output (stereo)\u2019, found in the I\/O dropdown, sends audio direct to the Mix Buss. This can be found directly above the master fader and allows you to utilise the unique width and EQ shelving functions, both found on the mix buss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Discrete Channel Output (Hybrid Mode)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"303\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/themusicstudios\/files\/2022\/10\/image-6.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/themusicstudios\/files\/2022\/10\/image-6.png 170w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/themusicstudios\/files\/2022\/10\/image-6-168x300.png 168w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 170px) 100vw, 170px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the HYBRID template, each channel is routed out of Pro Tools to discrete channels on the console. In this case, the user must select the output routing on the desk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Selecting MIX will route the audio to the Mix Buss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Selecting GRP 1 (for example) will route the audio to a sub-mix named Group 1, which must then be routed to the Mix Buss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\" id=\"crm\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"154\" height=\"274\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/themusicstudios\/files\/2022\/10\/image-7.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-249\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"crm\"><a><\/a><a><\/a>Control Room Monitoring<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u2018CONTROL ROOM MONITOR\u2019 section controls the final output stage (i.e. the master volumelevel, and which set of monitor speakers are being output to).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"149\" height=\"277\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/themusicstudios\/files\/2022\/10\/image-8.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-250\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"selecting-speakers\">When the Neve 8424 is initialised, the output will be <strong>CUT <\/strong>to prevent accidental damage to monitor speakers. Press the CUT button to unmute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ltds\">Listening Through Different Speakers<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>There are 3 pairs of stereo monitors, which can be selected as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A = Genelec 8341As<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>M1 = Focal Twin 6 BEs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>M2 = Avantone CLA-10s<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tson\">Trouble-Shooting\/Other Notes<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"pop-up\"><a><\/a><a><\/a>Neve 8424 Console software pop-up<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"technical\">This controls the connection between the desk and the external Neve 1073-OPX rack. Everything should be automatically configured. If not, click \u2018Scan &amp; Link\u2019 and all should be well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Setting the Sample Rate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Various bit depth and sample rate options are available on the Pro Tools dashboard. Most of the time, you should follow the setting in the screenshot below (24bit, 44.1kHz).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"337\" height=\"348\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/themusicstudios\/files\/2022\/10\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-242\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/themusicstudios\/files\/2022\/10\/image.png 337w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/themusicstudios\/files\/2022\/10\/image-291x300.png 291w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 337px) 100vw, 337px\" \/><figcaption>The Pro Tools Dashboard. Note the Sample Rate and Bit Depth Selectors at the bottom of the window.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>IMPORTANT<\/strong>: check that the sample rate on the Antelope Galaxy 32 interface matches exactly the sample rate of the Pro Tools session. This will open a software window, with the sample rate shown at the top.
