{"id":182,"date":"2017-01-27T10:03:28","date_gmt":"2017-01-27T10:03:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/vitalnorth\/?p=182"},"modified":"2017-01-27T10:03:28","modified_gmt":"2017-01-27T10:03:28","slug":"the-seven-stories-knowledge-transfer-partnership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/vitalnorth\/the-seven-stories-knowledge-transfer-partnership\/","title":{"rendered":"The Seven Stories Knowledge Transfer Partnership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From October 2015 to December 2016, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sevenstories.org.uk\/\">Seven Stories: The National Centre for Children\u2019s Books<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/\">Newcastle University<\/a> collaborated on an innovative <a href=\"http:\/\/ktp.innovateuk.org\/\">Knowledge Transfer Partnership,<\/a> or KTP, funded by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ahrc.ac.uk\/\">Arts and Humanities Research Council<\/a>. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/press\/news\/2015\/10\/sevenstoriesktp\/\">Seven Stories KTP<\/a> is believed to be the first English Literature KTP in the UK!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/innovate-uk\">InnovateUK\u2019s<\/a> KTP scheme helps businesses to develop and grow by linking them with a university.\u00a0The aim of our KTP was to help Seven Stories develop a research-led approach to their exhibitions and collections, and enable them to attract adult audiences.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/academicjess\">Dr Jessica Medhurst,<\/a> our KTP Research Associate, was embedded within <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sevenstories.org.uk\/collection\">Seven Stories\u2019 Collections<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sevenstories.org.uk\/exhibitions\">Exhibitions<\/a> team during the 15 months of the project, supervised by Collections Director Sarah Lawrance\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/elll\/staff\/profile\/annewhitehead.html#background\">Dr Anne Whitehead (PI)<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/elll\/staff\/profile\/lucypearson.html#background\">Dr Lucy Pearson (Co-I)<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/elll\/\">Newcastle University\u2019s School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The KTP has had some really interesting and tangible outcomes for Seven Stories. Touring to V&amp;A Museum of Childhood, Leeds City Museum. \u201cTo go from Michael Morpurgo\u2019s \u2018Dreamtime\u2019 in his exhibition, to the \u2018Cabinet of Curiosities\u2019 \u2013 a short walk away \u2013 shows how deeply connected every part of his writing process is\u201d \u2013 Gavin Hetherington, Newcastle University student. Artefictions: Exposing issues around authenticity, truth and creativity in historical fiction, child curators created items \u201cwhich could have inspired Michael Morpurgo\u2019s books\u201d for display in the Morpurgo exhibition. Home, Heritage, History: Rethinking teaching in the light of the KTP: the third-year module \u2018Home, heritage, history: British children\u2019s literature\u2019 was revised in dialogue with the work done on the KTP and the Morpurgo exhibition. A new assessment asks students to consider exhibition design and academic engagement with public audiences and \u201cobliges the students to think about a broader, living context for literature and an audience for their own writing.\u201d - Professor Jennifer Richards, School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics, Newcastle University \u201cThe trip to Seven Stories was excellent! The exhibitions were enjoyable and gave me loads of interesting ideas for the mid-module assignment.
