Here\u2019s a quick introduction to some of the terminology used in the new systems.<\/p>\n<h2>Content management system (CMS)<\/h2>\n<p>A content management system is a tool that can be used to add, edit, publish and maintain websites.<\/p>\n<h2>TerminalFour (T4)<\/h2>\n<p>T4 is the University\u2019s new content management system. It is currently used to publish the undergraduate and postgraduate prospectuses, and sites on research.ncl.ac.uk and conferences.ncl.ac.uk.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the Go Mobile programme we will migrate all external facing sites into T4.<\/p>\n<h2>Section<\/h2>\n<p>A section is a folder in the Site Structure. It is a container for the content that appears on your website as a page. Your site is built up a number of sections in a hierarchy.<\/p>\n<h2>Branch<\/h2>\n<p>A branch is a section and its sub-sections.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/web\/files\/2015\/04\/T4-section-branch.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-672\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/web\/files\/2015\/04\/T4-section-branch.png\" alt=\"T4 sections and branches\" width=\"503\" height=\"516\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/web\/files\/2015\/04\/T4-section-branch.png 503w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/web\/files\/2015\/04\/T4-section-branch-292x300.png 292w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 503px) 100vw, 503px\" \/><\/a>Content Type<\/h2>\n<p>A content type allows you to create some content in a particular format, eg a pullquote, a button, or expandable content. Each content type has a customised form with fields for you to enter your content into.<\/p>\n<p>Some content types contain a\u00a0<strong>TinyMCE<\/strong> &#8211; this is the content editor interface (a bit like word) that lets you format your text.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/web\/files\/2015\/04\/tinyMCE.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-680 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/web\/files\/2015\/04\/tinyMCE.jpg\" alt=\"This is the T4 content editor\" width=\"643\" height=\"241\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/web\/files\/2015\/04\/tinyMCE.jpg 643w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/web\/files\/2015\/04\/tinyMCE-300x112.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ncl.ac.uk\/web\/files\/2015\/04\/tinyMCE-500x187.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 643px) 100vw, 643px\" \/><\/a>Workflow<\/h2>\n<p>A workflow is an approval process that a piece of content can go through before it is\u00a0published. Workflows will be set up in consultation with site owners.<\/p>\n<h2>Media<\/h2>\n<p>Media refers to all files uploaded to your site, ie images and documents. The media for each site is grouped together as a category in the Media Library.<\/p>\n<h2>Channel<\/h2>\n<p>The channel is the method of publishing content as a page on a website.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Through the Go Mobile programme we\u2019re replacing the tools we use to publish websites.
