Theft in the Library

Notes to clarify what happens when a theft is reported in the Library.

The immediate response, usually from staff at Reception, is to contact Security either they will come over or the reader will go to them. A Library incident form is also completed, available at Reception, and this then goes to Wayne.

Once Security are involved they deal with the incident from then on and there’s no more that the Library can do. If bank cards are missing, Security will arrange for the reader to phone their bank and, depending on the nature of the theft and the wishes of the reader, Security will report the theft to the Newcastle Police.

All CCTV on campus is dealt with by Security and can only be viewed on receipt of a written request from the Police (data protection). Unfortunately the Library can’t ask for it to be checked nor can we view it, so if the reader subsequently asks for the CCTV to be checked, please refer them back to the Police / Security.
