Promoting anti-racism
- A co-produced project by Peter and Dr Joel White with Shawlands Academy in Glasgow led to the development of an animation 10 ways to tackle racism at school which has been included as a case study example of anti-racism in Scottish schools as part of Education Scotland’s Young anti-racist voices of Scotland initiative.
- An animation Peter worked on focused on Hate Crimes in the UK is used as part of the induction process at several universities and has been used by Northumbria Police as part of their Hate Crime Champions training.
- A guide co-created with pupils in Glasgow, Get your facts right: a guide to involving young people in social research continues to be used by Glasgow City Council’s Education Services Research Group.
Tackling Islamophobia
- Evidence from Peter’s collaborative work was submitted to the UK Women and Equalities Committee inquiry into gendered Islamophobia and is referred to numerous times in their report Discrimination, harassment and abuse against Muslim women.
- The European Coalition of Cities Against Racism report Local Actions Against Anti-Muslim Racism includes an interview with Peter about masculinities and Islamophobia.
- From 2021-2024, Peter provided the Secretariat for the Cross Party Group on Challenging Racial and Religious Prejudice in the Scottish Parliament; this replaced the previous group focused on Tackling Islamophobia which was set up in 2018 and from which the first inquiry into Islamophobia in Scotland was produced.
- Peter worked with the CPG on Tackling Islamophobia Uzma Mir to produce media guidelines for journalists on reporting on Muslims and Islam (including a helpful summary). The APPG on Religion in the Media report Learning to Listen: inquiry into religious literacy in print and broadcast media included several references to evidence submitted from this and related work.
- The All Party Parliamentary Group on British Muslims report Islamophobia Defined makes several references to evidence submitted by Peter and his colleagues.
Intersectionality
- Peter collaborated with Stacy Bias to develop an animation that addresses the question ‘what is intersectionality?’ This used worldwide in government departments, educational institutions, and voluntary sector agencies, and has over 970k views.
