We held the first workshop on 13th January 2015 to explore the potential of a large flat floor learning space at Newcastle University. We split into four groups, that included academics from all three faculties and professional service staff from ESS, NUIT, Timetabling services, the library and the estates faculty co-ordinators. Each group then explored the what, why, who and how we would use such a space.
Bev Robinson from ESS introduced the session with this power point presentation.

The groups were then asked to annotate on some pictures of examples of flat floor learning spaces from around the world. ‘ Good Place to Learn’

The next task involved lots of cutting and pasting as the groups worked with three potential floor plans and laid out the rooms with furniture and fittings and IT to indicate how they would use them.
We were asking:
What would you use the room for?
Why would use the room?
How would you use the room?
What issues can you forsee?
Any example spaces, equipment or furniture that you think might be useful.
