Software Engineer
Would you like a highly varied role working within the Mission Systems Software Team? We currently have a vacancy for a Software Engineer at our site in Brough, East Yorkshire. As a Software Engineer, you will be working on advanced software architectures delivering technology into existing programmes and with the intention of providing a competitive edge in the future
The Brough Mission Systems Software Team, established in the early 1990s with the prime intention of supporting the development of software for the single seat and later, the twin seat variants of the Hawk jet trainer aircraft. This software covered both airborne and ground based applications, and allowed the Brough team to establish a full life-cycle capability. The team now also support a number of other products to varying degrees.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on a diversity and range of software development/testing activities within the department, with the potential to travel to other sites.
Your main responsibilities as a Software Engineer will involve:
Working effectively as a team member within a team of engineers to design, develop, test, document, configure and deliver software.
Developing and/or verifying all products to agreed standards and procedures using the specified tools.
Investigating and resolving software problems raised during any stage of the system lifecycle, through to and including in-service.
Communicating effectively, identifying potential risks early, seeking clarification and providing feedback to the team leader.
Participating in continuous process improvement.
Ability to develop documentation in an understandable, unambiguous and concise manner.
Your skills and qualifications:
Essential:
Experience in at least one High Level Programming language, e.g. C, C++, Java, Ada etc.
Familiarity with requirements capture and traceability tools/techniques
Familiarity with at least one software design methodology e.g. UML, Rational Unified Process
Desirable:
Awareness of software safety standards and guidelines, as a significant proportion of the software written for our airborne platforms is safety related.
Familiarity with software tools/environments e.g. Artisan Real Time Studio / PTC modeller, Visual Studio, GPS, Multi or similar
Experience in the Ada programming language
Software integration and testing skills
Qualifications:
Honours degree in software engineering, computer science, or related subject, e.g. mathematics, physics or electronic/electrical engineering
