In support of NHSBSA operations, the IT function develops, supports and operates services. The security function helps ensure these digital services remain confidential.

About the Role:

We have an exciting new opportunity to join us this September for 12 months within our Software Quality Assurance Team.

You will start your day with a Daily Scrum event and you will provide updates on the progress of tasks allocated to you, as the team works towards its goals. Most of our teams work within a Scrum Framework and work in Sprints (typically, time boxed to 2 weeks), as they work towards their Sprint Goal as part of an iterative software development process.

Key responsibilities:

• Contribute to the goals of your development team, with a focus on the delivery of good quality software

• Use automation and manual software testing techniques to assess the quality of software under test

• Contribute to functional and non-functional testing activities (such as digital accessibility, performance testing, security testing)

• There is a wide range of browsers and devices available today, you will use cloud-based Device Farms to complete cross-browser/cross device testing.

• Effective communication with your development team on progress of tickets assigned to you.

The role is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills in test automation techniques, and other software testing methods, working within a multi-disciplinary development team. The role of a tester is to help ensure that the products we build meet the needs of our customers.

With the support of your manager and mentor, you will have objectives to work towards to make sure you are developing during your time with us. We really want to hear your ideas throughout your time with us, so you’ll have lots of opportunity to suggest new and innovative ways of working.

About You

You will need to have successfully completed the second year of your studies and intend to return to University to complete your final year at the end of your placement.  We are interested in all IT related degrees, and you should have a desire to work in business and financial services.

• Confidence to communicate effectively via different methods of communication

• Strong attention to detail and organisation skills

• An ability to work both independently and within a team

• Willingness to commit to your own development

In this role, the individual will work closely with the Centre Manager and Marketing and Communications Lead, who will deliver guidance and support regarding the assigned tasks and responsibilities. This role will involve the use of Outlook, MS Teams, Hootsuite and HubSpot. All training for these tools will be provided.

Duration: This internship is expected to be for a total of 72 – 80 hours, working approximately 6 hours per week between January and April. Working days and times are flexible.

The intern will automate the wrangling process, following validation rules supplied by the P&P (Planning and Performance) team using ‘industry standard’ scripting techniques such as R and/or Python, ultimately producing a system that will allow this to be easily performed each financial quarter. The intern will design and create a database to hold the new Index Data, design and produce queries/view/reports so that index files can be exported for bespoke reporting and produce detailed documentation of the wrangling scripts so that any future changes can be performed by the P&P team (upon completion of training).
