Hi, I’m Dominic Kennedy and I’m studying Computer Science at Newcastle University. In July, I started my 15 month long placement working as an Assistant Business Analyst for Newcastle University IT Service (NUIT). I am working within the Student Systems team, who are responsible for managing the Student Lifecycle Management processes within the University. SLM involves the full lifecycle of a student – from registration through to graduation – meaning that we provide a wide variety of different services to both students and staff.

Placement opportunity in Software Engineering with XACTPCB Ltd

Printed circuit boards are at the heart of all electronics and XACT is the world’s leading provider of award winning patented Smart Manufacturing technologies to the global printed circuit industry. XACT’s innovative products utilise integrated data capture and machine learning to enable fabricators to manufacture high-technology circuit boards of ever-increasing complexity whilst reducing costs, increasing profitability and improving time to market. XACT has over 150 active customers spread around the world.

XACT is now looking for an enthusiastic software engineering student to work on placement based in North Shields (2 minutes from the Metro) for a 12-15 month period from June 2019.

We would expect a candidate to have knowledge of object-oriented software design. Experience with C#, MVVM, WPF, Git and Visual Studio would be beneficial but is not required.

As a placement software engineer you will join our agile development team to develop new features within our latest generation of products. This will involve a number of roles; programming, testing, documenting and working on a number of areas within the product; GUI development, data integration and client/server communication. The placement will provide an opportunity to develop a well-rounded understanding and practical experience of modern software development.

The ideal person will have a positive and flexible attitude, be eager to learn and committed to achieving results. The learning curve will be steep but support will be provided by an enthusiastic team of software engineers.
