Web Developer JobsoC internship, School of Geography

The School of Geography, Politics and Sociology is seeking an enthusiastic student in computer scientist to assist in the development of an innovative web-based decision support tool.

You will be responsible for developing a web-based system to pose questions, analyse/score responses and derive informative and descriptive ways of rapidly summarising participants’ answers into accessible summary diagrams and/or scoring systems.  The deliverable (DeLTAS toolkit) will be tested in winter 2023/24 in a series of workshops with the intention to develop a smartphone app in the longer term.

The tool should be data-driven so that the questionnaires etc can be added and edited by the research team. The successful applicant should ideally have some experience in developing webpages, and an interest in human computer interaction. The specific context of the work is around the ecosystems and sustainability of river delta systems in Bangladesh, India and Vietnam, so an interest in sustainable ecosystems and the culture around them is also advantageous. The work will be with the  UKRI GCCF Living Deltas Hub, and research staff will provide support and guidance on the specific project needs throughout.

The work is funded through Jobs on Campus (JobsoC), at a rate of £13.76 per hour for up to 20 hours per week. If you are interested please contact Andy Large andy.large@newcastle.ac.uk in the first instance. You will also need to register with JobsoC

There is also potential to extend this work as a stage 3 dissertation project.
