Student requirements: This internship is open to Stage 3 & 4 Mechanical Engineering students at Newcastle University students.

Dates and times: This internship is expected to be for a total of 148 hours, working approximately 37 hours per week between June and July. The successful candidate will ideally work Monday-Friday, 09:00-17:00, but there can be some flexibility.

Bursary/wage: £13.76 per hour including holiday pay

Role overview: The role will involve a combination of technical analysis, use of engineering programmes, hands-on work with test machines and mechanical design. The candidate will need a good foundation in engineering design and mechanics and will have an interest in mechanical power transmission.

Role overview: The role will involve: 1) testing existing landslide detection tools for a set of past earthquakes where good landslide maps already exist (as ‘ground truth’); and 2) exploring the potential to improve detection tools by further postprocessing (e.g., using object-based characteristics), and/or addition of new datasets (e.g. topography, land cover).

Role overview: The interns will be working alongside Design Unit engineers on a variety of tasks related to research work being undertaken in the National Gear Metrology Laboratory, one of the world’s top gear measurement labs. The role will involve some practical metrology, introduce you to the science of measurement and measurement analysis work. You will assist with work to assure the accuracy and precision of measurement instruments and systems within the national lab.

Role title, company name: Employability Skills and Marketing Researcher (Environmental Science), Newcastle University

Student requirements: This internship is open to students studying Environmental Science, Earth Science or aligned subjects (e.g., ecology, geography, agriculture, environmental engineering).

Student requirements: This internship is open to all Newcastle University students; however, the role is particularly suited to Engineering, Physics and Computing students.

Role overview: The project aims to enhance undergraduate physics education by incorporating space-based experiments. The primary objective is to prepare an experiment, which is part of Laboratory Skills in Physics, so that it can be conducted aboard a 10x10x10 cm^3 satellite in Earth’s orbit.

Role title, company name: Sport Media Intern (Live Streaming)

Student requirements: Students from all degree disciplines are welcome to apply. The role may be of particular interest to those students studying marketing, media, film, journalism, sport, computer science and business.

Dates and times: The internships are each expected to be for a total of 100 hours, working approximately 3-4 hours per week between September 2024 and May 2025.  You would be expected to work approximately 15 weeks in term 1, 9 weeks in term 2 and 2 weeks in term 3.Interns be available on a Wednesday afternoon/early evening. At least one of the interns will be required to work a Saturday afternoon when our NBL Basketball team play at home (approx. 10 Saturdays). This role could be shared.

Role overview:  For the 2024-25 academic year, Newcastle University Sport is looking to recruit 2 Sport Media (Live Streaming) Interns to support our sport marketing and media delivery with the production and coordination of live streaming for University Sport BUCS and National League fixtures. The interns will work as a team to ensure the streaming schedule operates to a high standard on a weekly basis, this will involve working closely with a range of colleagues in the University Sport department, coordinating schedules, managing, and operating equipment.
