Life drawing must and has consistently reflected the changing times. Here is a quote from Deanna Petherbridge (2010) in ‘The primacy of Drawing’
“Academic practice from its inception has been constituted around drawing from the nude; indeed, drawing could only be understood as a liberal art if it involved study of the body as the repository of classical or ‘scientific’ or natural information…The life class in its long history is an entirely artificial construct; a powerful representation not only of looking, but also of forces of control…”
During the academic year 2021-2 figure drawing classes run by the Fine Art department will adapt according to the changing mores and times.
