Be interviewed for a project on diversity in Philosophy

Anne-Marie McCallion from Manchester University writes:

I am looking for students to take part in my research into diversity in philosophy and factors that cause the attrition of marginalised groups from the undergraduate to postgraduate levels. This research is part of an AHRC [Arts and Humanities Research Council] funded joint project with the British Philosophical Association and the Diversity Reading List.

I am interested in recruiting participants of all levels of philosophical study from undergraduate to postgraduate levels in order to discuss their experience of studying philosophy and thoughts about curriculum diversity. Participation in this research will involve a semi-structured interview concerning some central philosophical topics, experiences studying philosophy, and why you would like to continue (or not to continue) in philosophy. The interview will last approximately one hour and will take place via Zoom. There will also be a short questionnaire to fill out prior to the interview.  If you are interested in participating in this research please email me ( anne-marie.mccallion@manchester.ac.uk) so that I can send you a participant information sheet which will contain more information. I am also more than happy to answer any questions you may have via email.

Undergraduate reviewers for philosophy journal wanted

CALL FOR EXTERNAL REVIEWERS

Stance: An International Undergraduate Philosophy Journal seeks undergraduate philosophy students to serve as manuscript reviewers.

Stance reviewers hone their writing, researching, and analysis skills by evaluating original papers by some of the world’s most talented undergraduate scholars. Reviewers must have advanced undergraduate experience in philosophy, strengths in writing and editing, and the self-motivation necessary to complete work by given deadlines. A letter of recommendation from a professor who is familiar with the student’s philosophical abilities is required.

Stance has two types of manuscript reviewers. “External Reviewers” evaluate two or three manuscripts, typically in late January or early February. “Assistant Editorial Board Members” serve on our major review teams. Assistant Editorial Board Members consider approximately 20 -30 papers in December. All reviewers receive training material that explains what is expected in the formal review and are guided by an experienced Stance staff member. Reviewers are credited in both the print and electronic versions of the journal.

To apply, please visit https://www.stancephilosophy.com/for-reviewers-1 and follow the instructions provided on the Call for Reviewers.

Please contact us at ballstatestance@gmail.com with any questions you may have.

Deadline: October 16, 2020

Undergraduate Philosophy Review – Publish your Work!

The British Undergraduate Philosophy Review invites submissions from current undergraduates for its Summer 2020 Issue. The BUR is a newly established philosophy journal aiming to showcase the best of undergraduate philosophy; we encourage undergraduates to submit essays on topics from all areas of philosophy.

If you wish to submit a paper, please send it to philosophy@britishundergraduatereview.org before Saturday 15th August 2020 together with a separate document including your name, contact details, paper title, and university affiliation. Please ensure that the paper contains no information which could be used to identify the author. Please also note that we only accept one paper per author, and will not accept papers that have previously been published elsewhere.

Submissions of 2000-3000 words are preferred, but all submissions under 5000 words will be peer-reviewed. Submissions are welcome from all areas of philosophy.

Papers should be clear enough to be understood by an intelligent layperson. The argumentation must be rigorous. The paper should not be longer than is necessary to demonstrate its conclusion. In addition, the Review prefers papers that offer original arguments or philosophical positions, although papers must be clear and precise above all.

Authors will be notified as to whether their paper has been accepted no more than two weeks after the submission deadline. Accepted papers will be published in the British Undergraduate Philosophy Review Summer 2020 Issue.

Please do get in contact with the review, either via Facebook or email, if you have any questions regarding the submission process.
