For the season opener NURL headed to Scotland with an injury and graduation ravaged side including 7 debutants out of Seventeen. Napier had been undefeated in Edinburgh for 3 years and boast a squad containing numerous Scottish Student Internationals. The Royals were keen to stamp their authority on the re-structured Premier North division and eager to welcome the newly promoted side with a crushing defeat.

Newcastle Combined Squad – 38
Bradford University – 16
The Match consisted of 4 twenty minute quarters under the watchful eye of legendary SRL officiator Ian Mcregor. After a strong start Bradford were unable to live with NURL’s depth of talent amongst players new and old.
Newcastle’s try’s were spread evenly across the squad and included two fine finishes from debutants Bruce Rigby and Dan Acton.
Man of the Match for Newcastle was Fresher Rob Seagreaves who backed up his comanding attacking display with some bone-crunching shoulders in defence.
With the Gutsy Bradford side duly demolished the Season now begins in earnest.
New Players are still welcome and encouraged to join the squad at training which is running at the normal times.
