Newcastle Work Experience (NWE) is a flexible 100 hour placement scheme providing undergraduate and postgraduate students with the opportunity to undertake challenging project-based placements within Newcastle University and North East businesses.

Newcastle Work Experience – E-portfolio Development Assistant

Newcastle Work Experience (NWE) is a flexible 100 hour placement scheme providing undergraduate and postgraduate students with the opportunity to undertake challenging project-based placements within Newcastle University and North East businesses.

The University is seeking to improve the help and support materials for ePortfolio. There is currently some instructional documentation aimed at students but much of this is starting to be out of date. We would like the a student to create a full set of new instructions for ePortfolio, including the benefits to student learning, and examples of where various elements may be used in an educational context. The instructions should work as one complete document, that could be split apart into smaller sized handouts and used in online context-sensitive help.

Newcastle Work Experience – Software Developer (2 posts available)

Newcastle University | Newcastle upon Tyne | £700 bursary

This internship is part of a larger project looking at assessment and feedback. A previous intern developed software that visualises the assessment workload of a student or feedback, workload of a member of teaching staff for a semester or stage in the form of a virtual map that can be modified and updated. The input data includes when work is set, when deadlines are and when feedback is returned. This software will be used by programme leaders to consider positive changes to degree programmes and by individual students to manage their workload. The intern will work with two Schools: Biology, and Marine Science and Technology. The prototype software won the SAgE Faculty Innovator of the Year 2015 award in the Pedagogic Research category (http://bit.ly/1nnC6yz).

Newcastle Work Experience – Web Portal Developer

Your Homes Newcastle YHN | Newcastle upon Tyne | £700 bursary

Newcastle Work Experience (NWE) is a flexible 100 hour placement scheme providing undergraduate and postgraduate students with the opportunity to undertake challenging project-based placements within Newcastle University and North East businesses.

Your Homes Newcastle (YHN) is responsible for managing council homes on behalf of Newcastle City Council. YHN also offers a range of support to its customers including tenancy and property services.

YHN is currently delivering a project to replace their current customer website. Working closely with Newcastle City Council, they aim to implement a customer portal for all customers to access to complete transactions online, as an alternative to making an appointment or calling to access their services.

Other processes have been implemented online which require improvements to increase the use by customers.
