Exploring the fragmented experience of perception, Amy McCartney is interested in the fleeting images held in reflections. Her practice investigates this subject matter through paintings, prints and ‘painting-based installations’, responding to wider themes and interests of how we understand and perceive space, light, the transparent plane, and interior vs exterior, by means of the expanded field of painting. Her interest in the multiple-layered and distorted, momentary imagery found in reflective surfaces often begins with photography.
