There is often the assumption that a drawing is a precursory ‘sketch’ to a piece of work, rather than being the art itself. Through large scale charcoal drawings I want to subvert this misconception. My work explores the tensions around sex as entertainment, combined with a recent interest in the symbolism and iconography surrounding ‘The Cowboy’. I want the drawings to playfully bring together the empowering and degrading, the reassuring and unnerving and the seductive and provocative.
